A child’s path to a successful future starts with education, where competencies and life skills are built. COS is proud to sponsor educational programs such as KIDO (Knowing the Issues, Discussing the Options) offered by Youthlink Calgary, The Calgary Police Interpretive Centre. Through the KIDO program and interactive displays and exhibits, Youthlink educates elementary school-age children about major social issues that affect youth in Calgary today -- crime and its consequences, the ramifications of drug and alcohol abuse, bullying, internet safety and domestic violence. Through this program, children are empowered to make positive and confident choices when faced with life’s daily challenges.
Among other educational initiatives, COS is also a supporter of CAREERS - The Next Generation Foundation. CAREERS is a nonprofit organization that introduces youth to rewarding careers, which ultimately creates communities with a large and diversely skilled workforce. In November 2012, COS launched Math Minds, an innovative collaboration amongst multiple organizations to enhance numeracy in elementary school children. To find out more about Math Minds, click here.
